ACEY SLADE Explains Why He Left DOPE To Join The MURDERDOLLS
April 10, 2004MURDERDOLLS guitarist Acey Slade recently explained to Glam-Metal.com why the web site for his other band TRASH LIGHT VISION contains no direct references to his pre-MURDERDOLLS band DOPE. "I did that for two reasons," he said."1. When I joined DOPE, it was this bad-ass punk/industrial/theatrical band. It's changed since then. 2. [DOPE frontman] Edsel was always paranoid that we would use the 'DOPE' name to go on to better things and now that I'm in a band bigger than DOPE, I don't want to let HIM gain anything from me. I have no bad feelings as I definitely left that band with more than I had going into it and I am grateful for that. Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there."
Asked why he chose to leave DOPE and join the MURDERDOLLS, Slade said, "I had quit DOPE two times before I REALY quit so I was on my way out anyway. I was a good friend of Joey's [Jordison, MURDERDOLLS guitarist/SLIPKNOT drummer] and in fact he had the VAMPIRE LOVE DOLLS demo [Acey's pre-DOPE band] from back in the day. [MURDERDOLLS singer] Wednesday 13 is an old friend. I am wearing a FRANKENSTEIN DRAG QUEENS T-shirt [Wednesday's pre-MURDERDOLLS band] inside [DOPE's] 'Life' album. I didn't have much of a choice. Joey pretty much told me I was the new guitarist before he even asked. ha, ha... 'Dude, here is your plane ticket, your our new guitarist. Now learn 20 songs in 3 days...ha, ha... Besides, they had shows lined up with GUNS N' ROSES and HANOI ROCKS how the fuck do you turn that down?"
